In December 2011, June Miyamoto brought a copy of this letter to the 100th Veterans clubhouse. Her brother was a 100th soldier, Haruo Doi of A Company, 3rd Platoon, who was killed in action. This letter, dated 21 December 1944, is addressed to the Emergency Service Committee in Honolulu which was formed in February 1942 by the Morale Section of the Military Governor’s Office to work among the Japanese population and ease racial tensions after the bombing of Pearl Harbor the previous December.
The letter is from fifteen members of the platoon. They request that the enclosed $150.00 money order be used for services and flowers for six men of their platoon who have been killed, including Haruo Doi.
